TRC20

The token standard on the TRON blockchain, best known for TRC20 USDT.

TRC20 is the technical standard for tokens on TRON, similar to ERC-20 on Ethereum. The best-known TRC20 token is USDT, which moves in very large volumes on TRON because transfers are fast and relatively cheap.

TRC20 tokens live at TRON addresses, which start with T. Fees are paid through bandwidth and energy. Token transfers need energy, which you get by staking or renting TRX; without it, the network burns TRX from your balance. A wallet holding only USDT and no TRX usually cannot send the USDT.

TRC20 USDT is a different asset from ERC-20 or SPL USDT, even though all are issued by Tether. When you deposit or withdraw, the network must match on both sides. Choosing TRC20 on one end and ERC-20 on the other is a common and costly mistake.
