BEP-20
The token standard on BNB Smart Chain, compatible with Ethereum's ERC-20.
BEP-20 is the token standard on BNB Smart Chain (BSC). It is modeled on ERC-20, so tokens behave the same way and wallets use the same 0x address format. Many tokens, including stablecoins, exist in BEP-20 versions alongside their Ethereum originals.
BEP-20 transfers pay gas in BNB. Fees are usually low and blocks come every few seconds, which makes BSC popular for smaller transfers. A wallet holding BEP-20 tokens needs some BNB to move them.
The shared address format is the main risk. A BEP-20 token and its ERC-20 counterpart are separate assets, and exchanges treat BSC and Ethereum as different networks. If a quote or exchange asks for BEP-20, choose BNB Smart Chain when sending; do not confuse it with the retired BNB Beacon Chain, whose addresses started with bnb1.
