ERC-20

The standard for fungible tokens on Ethereum, used by USDT, USDC, LINK, SHIB, PEPE and many others.

ERC-20 is the most widely used token standard on Ethereum. It defines how tokens report balances and how they are transferred, so wallets and apps can support thousands of tokens in the same way. USDT, USDC, LINK, SHIB, PEPE and POL all exist as ERC-20 tokens.

Every ERC-20 transfer is an Ethereum transaction, so it pays gas in ETH. A wallet with tokens but no ETH cannot move them. Gas depends on network demand, not on the value you send, which makes small token transfers relatively expensive when Ethereum is busy.

The same 0x address works on Ethereum and on other EVM networks such as BNB Smart Chain, Arbitrum and Polygon, but tokens on those networks are separate. When a quote says ERC-20, make sure you send from, and receive on, Ethereum itself.
