SPL token

The token standard on Solana, used for USDT, USDC and most other Solana tokens.

SPL (Solana Program Library) tokens are the Solana equivalent of ERC-20 tokens. USDT and USDC both exist as SPL tokens, and transfers usually cost a fraction of a cent and confirm within seconds.

Solana stores each token balance in a separate token account linked to your wallet address. Creating that account needs a small SOL deposit, which most wallets handle automatically when you first receive a token. Transfers also pay fees in SOL, so keep a little in the wallet.

Solana addresses are base58 strings and look nothing like Ethereum's 0x addresses. SPL USDT and ERC-20 USDT are different assets on different chains: if a quote names Solana, send and receive on Solana only. Some exchanges also require a memo on Solana deposits to shared addresses.
