Destination tag
A number attached to an XRP payment that tells a shared address which customer the funds belong to.
A destination tag is a numeric field on XRP Ledger payments. Exchanges and swap services usually receive XRP for many customers on a single address and use the destination tag to credit each deposit to the right person or order.
When a deposit screen shows an XRP address and a destination tag, both are required. Some wallets hide the tag field under an extra option, so look for it before you confirm. If you send without the tag, the XRP reaches the service but stays unassigned until support matches it manually using your transaction hash.
Destination tags are not needed for personal self-custody wallets, which have their own addresses. XRP accounts also have a reserve: a minimum balance that cannot be sent. A new address becomes active only after it receives at least the reserve amount, which matters when you receive small XRP payouts.
